How To Create Your Own Gaming Blog

You’re a gamer, huh? And you want to break into the world of blogging about games. Well, that’s a great idea, but how in the world will you get started? Read on! We’ll help you find your way to starting a gaming blog.

First, figure out what your niche is. You can have a gaming blog that touches on every sort of game, but keeping up with all of that on your own can be exhausting. If you play games on several different platforms, then which one do you like the best?

If you pick one, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to write about the other platforms at all, that just means that you’ll be focusing on one particular platform. For example – a lot of people who primarily play PC games will have an “other platform” tag on their blog for those times they stray from the norm. Many gamers are very well rounded and play a lot of different games on a variety of consoles, so they’ll likely be interested in whatever you post on there.

Note: You don’t have to focus on a particular platform either. You can focus on a style of game (first person shooters, MMO’s, etc) or, in some cases, an individual game or series of games (World of Warcraft, the Halo series, etc).

After you do that, make sure that you’re involved in the community for that platform, game style, or game. Be involved! Make sure that people at least have a vague idea of who you are and what you’re about. Get talking; let people know that what you have to say is interesting. This is especially important because the gaming blog world is very saturated and can be hard to get into.

Lastly, get started! Seriously, it’s as easy as that. But how, may you ask? Here are some ideas that can get your brain going in terms of potential topics or posts on your blog.

–          What was the coolest thing you’ve seen in game(s) lately?

–          What is the current news with your topic of choice?

–          Game reviews are always a great topic to go toward, especially if you’ve focused on a platform.

–          If you’re focusing on a style of game, talk about how gameplay differs between platforms (i.e. playing Call of Duty on a PC vs. Xbox360 vs. PS3).

–          New releases that you’re looking forward to, or new patches or DLC’s that you have thoughts about.

–          Strategy and game play tips.

After you start posting and have some content rolling, let other people know about what you’re doing. There are a lot of people out there who will want to read what you have to say, but if you don’t get the word out that you have a blog, they won’t know to look!

If you love gaming, starting a blog is a great idea. Figure out how you want to get started, and just go for it! You won’t regret jumping into the excitement that comes with being a blogger that focuses on the gaming industry.
